Memberspeed New Site Installation (version 2.03)

Nam Tran Ybarra @ December 6, 2009

You can outsource the installation task  by logging into your Memberspeed account, click on “profressional installation”  link and select one of the providers listed there.

If you want to do it yourself, please follow the steps below:

Step 1: Contact your hosting provider, ask them:

a/  If the server meets the requirements as stated below:

http://www.memberspeed.com/resources/contents/sysRequirements.html

b/ Which version they supported: Zend or Ioncube?

( Zend and Ioncube are terms that indicate the methods used to encode a software such as  Memberspeed software)

Step 2:  Download Memberspeed Software

Now that you got the answers from your host, you need to log into your memberspeed account at http://memberspeed.com, click on the ” Download” link , under New Installation section,   select Zend or Ioncube package, download it to your computer.

Tip:  you might want to right click on the download link, select “Save File AS” and save it to your desktop so your can find it later.

Step 3:  Upload Memberspeed software to your server

1/ Upload location:

If your site is going to be like this: http://www.YourDomain.com, you should upload it to /public_html/ folder

If your site is going to be like this http://www.YourDomain.com/my-folder

you should upload it to /public_html/my-folder

2/ Uploading methods

Method 1: Check with your host to see if you can upload the whole zip file and extract it via the hosting control panel. If they say yes then it drastically shorten your installation time.

You will need a FTP client ( search google for a free one  like FileZilla ) to upload the zip file that you downloaded earlier from your computer to your server.  After uploading,  follow your host instruction to extract it.

Method 2: Extract the zip file on your computer THEN upload all files to your server

You will need a FTP client ( search google for a free one  like FileZilla, I use a paid one http://www.flashfxp.com/. If you do not know how to use FTP, you can download file zilla and watch this video to understand how it works before moving to memberspeed installation video) to upload the extracted files. Make sure to upload them via BINARY MODE

Attention: this method takes a while to upload all files to your server.

Many files may not be fully uploaded to your server due to your server timed out, or your internet connection.

If

Step 4:  Installation Command:

Following the on screen instruction.  Click here  for preferences

After you completed the installation, write down your username and password, bookmark your admin login

Step 5:  Install plugins:

Inbuilt Autoresponder installation video:

Step 6 : Set up cron jobs

Cron is a command to handle a specific task on a time set schedule for you so you do not need to manually dong it: for example: every  5 minutes, the cron  runs and send out the welcome  email to your newly registered members.

I started with version 2.02 instructions (no htaccess here either)and realized 1/2 way through changing permissions that I was in the 2.02 tutorials and so deleted everything and unzipped again

It appears that the permissions do not have to be changed with the 2.03 version even if they are at 755 and not 777 etc…?

Do I need to create a .htaccess file when none exists after upload (cpanel) and unzip?

    Hi Dan,

If you are with HostGator then 755 is okay no need to change to 777.
If you are unsure please check with your host.

About the .htaccess file, I think your FTP or your cpanel setting was hidden so you didn’t see it.
Check the setting again, tick the box” show hidden files” and see.

You can create a .htaccess file if it is really not there.
