How to customize my template ( SITE DESIGN module )

Editing an Existing Template

You can quickly customize your MemberSpeed site by making a few changes to an existing template. By modifying the Header Graphics or background color, your site can be altered dramatically in just a few steps.

From the Home page, select the Site Design/Page Management module.

From the links on the left, choose “Templates Design” to work with your previously uploaded templates (see below for how to add your own custom templates).

Change the Default Template

To change the template currently being used for your site, simply click on the radio button next to the name of the template you wish to use, and click Set as Default.

Edit the Template Layout

To make changes to an existing template, click the Modify link that appears beneath the template you wish to change. On the Templates Design page, select Click Here to Change Page Template to open the template for editing:

The Modify Template page consists of three areas:

  • Instructions and Helpful information
  • Customizable Content fields
  • The Template HTML Code

The Customizable content area lets you easily change the main parts of your layout, such as the header image to use, the site background color and so on. Not all templates support the customizable content, but for those that do, it is an easy way to change parts of your layout without having to know anything about HTML or code.

The main part of the template is the actual template HTML code shown at the bottom of the page. Here you can make changes that will affect the layout of elements on all pages of your site. For example, you may wish to add some static text of your own that always appears beneath the Left Links. After making your changes, click Save Content to update the template.

Note: To do any of this type of editing, it is important that you are at least familiar with basic HTML.

View your site to see the changes that you have made. Note that you may need to click Refresh to view all the changes.

Edit the Template CSS

The CSS file (Cascading Style Sheet) controls the presentation of most of the elements on your pages. For example, the CSS defines what a H1 (Heading 1) tag will look like, and what color a link shall be shown as.

To edit the CSS for an existing template, on the Templates Design page, select Click Here to Change Site CSS File. Make the changes you require then click Save Content to update the CSS.

Note: To do any of this type of editing, it is important that you are familiar with basic CSS.

View your site to see the changes that you have made. Note that you may need to click Refresh to view all the changes.
