I hope this doesn't sound like a really stupid question, but here it goes

I have someone working with me who has been using Dreamweaver and knows the software inside and out. They are very comfortable using the FTP function in Dreamweaver and wants to know if they can use it to do FTP releated functions like changing file permissions on folders with dreamweaver inside of memberspeed… I have not used dreamweaver much, so I am not sure….

Thanks

Sam

Sam,

Yes, you should be able to… as long as you setup your local directory structure up as memberspeed is.

The problem you wil have is the difference between the code dreamweaver generates and the way memberspeed interprets it.

I have had major problems cutting and pasting my dreamweaver development code into memberspeed, and the difference between fsck editor and dreamweaver…

I always have to manually go in and change things…

By the way, I still do my major work in dreamweaver and then once I am close, I transfer it over to cms.. and alter it for colors, layout, etc…

Should be OK because the content is .html Files.
Hi there,

I think you should be OK with Dreamweaver, the problem you could strike is if you want to make "tweaks" using the CMS and paste them back into Dreamweaver.

The fckeditor can mess with the code which can be a real pain.
But, the quick tests I did with just dumping in one of my sites from Dreamweaver into memberspeed seemed to work surprisingly well just doing cut & paste.

I haven't tried FTP from Dreamweaver because our environments are high security, no FTP allowed. It's all command line scp etc.

I'd love to hear how it goes, because the templates are just plain .html it should be pretty straight forward.

Good luck, and do let us know.

Cheers – Cliff
